Volunteer to Help Illuminate Downtown Fort Worth and Register to Assist with Parade Day Activities! Our online application will be available July 15, 2020

Thank you for volunteering for this year’s GM Financial Parade of Lights. The 2020 parade will take place on Sunday, November 22.

The parade starts promptly at 6:00 pm; however, many volunteer assignments are scheduled for earlier in the day to help us prepare for the evening’s event. We are in particular need of staging and seating assistants.

There will be free parking at various lots. For more parking information, go to www.fortworthparking.com.

Volunteer Tips

  • Dress for the Weather!
  • Wear Comfortable, Closed-toe Shoes
  • Your volunteer shirt must be visible at all times. If it is chilly, be prepared to place your shirt over your jacket.
  • Only bring what you can carry. We will not have storage for personal items.

If you need Community Service Credit – Please provide your own forms when you check in.

Check-in is based on your assignment.

If you are a member of the following teams, you will check-in at the Hilton Hotel located at the corner of 8th & Main, in Ballroom A on the Second level.

  • Volunteer Support Team: 12:00 PM –  4:00 PM
  • Hospitality Area: VIP and Gold Seats: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Judges Assistants: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Review Stand Support: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Seating Associate: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • *NEW* Seating Support Team Escorts: 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM

If you are a member of the teams below, you will check in at the southeast corner of Henderson & Weatherford, this is the old Avis car rental building. There is also the Tarrant County Parking Garage located at 601 Weatherford that is offering free parking for Volunteers. PLEASE NOTE: Parking in this garage is NOT in-and-out parking. Once you have parked in this lot, you must stay parked in the garage until the Parade is over and Weatherford Street has opened to traffic.

Please check-in by your appointed check-in time. To avoid crowding, you are encouraged to check-in at least 15 minutes before your shift. All shift end times are approximate, and based on the end time of the Parade.

If your position is not listed, you will receive directions when you check in.

Hilton Volunteers

 Volunteer Support Team Hilton: 12:00 PM  – 4:00 PM – 4 volunteers (16 or older)

You will assist with greeting, signing-in, collecting forms and distributing t-shirts to volunteers as they check-in. You will also direct them to their assigned locations.  This assignment is located at the Hilton Hotel, 2nd floor ballroom.

Hospitality Area: Gold Seats: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 25 volunteers (16 or older)

Volunteers will help manage a single Gold Seat section. You will be responsible for setting up and restacking chairs when the parade is over. If your area contains bleachers, you will label the bleachers. This position requires a lot of lifting and bending. Once your section is set-up, you will be collect tickets from the patrons assigned to your section.
A chair will be provided in this section for you to watch the parade and the section. Refreshments and private restroom facilities are part of the Gold Seat amenities. Because of the length of this shift, you might consider bringing snacks or a light lunch.

Hospitality Area: VIP and Sponsor Seats: 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 25 volunteers (18 or older)

Volunteers will help setup the VIP area as well as greet and help our dignitaries before, during and after the parade. This position requires some lifting and bending. Light appetizers, refreshments and private restrooms are part of the VIP amenities. This shift also requires some standing. Because of the length of this shift, you might consider bringing snacks or a light lunch.

 Seating Associate: 2:00 PM  – 8:00 PM – 200 volunteers (16 or older)
Each reserved seat section contains approximately 50 seats. As a seating associate you will manage a single section. You will be responsible for setting up before the parade and re-stacking chairs when the parade is over. If your area contains bleachers, you will label the bleachers. This position requires a lot of lifting and bending.You will be collect tickets from the patrons assigned to your section. A chair will be provided in this section for you to watch the parade and the section.

 Review Stand Support: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 6 volunteers (16 or older)
Work in a review stand, helping the commentators stay on track with the entries and letting them know of discrepancies.

Judges Assistants: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 6 volunteers (17 or older)Volunteers will assist with the set up of the Parade Judges viewing area and assisting the Judges Coordinator with Parade Judges and tasks. In this position you might be asked to set-up and move chairs. This position also requires a lot of walking.

*NEW* Seating Area Escorts 1:00 PM  –  6:00 PM – 6 volunteers (16 or older)
Our seating area is spread out over many blocks. As a seating area escort, you will be responsible for making sure our seating and VIP area volunteers get to the positions where they are most needed. You will work directly with the seating staff. This position requires a lot of walking.

Staging Area Volunteers

Volunteer Support Team Staging: 2:30 PM – 7:00 PM – 6 volunteers (16 or older)
You will assist by with greeting, signing-in, collecting forms and distributing t-shirts to volunteers as they check-in. You will also direct them to their assigned locations. This assignment is located in the Staging Area.

*NEW* Staging Area Escorts 2:00 PM  –  7:00 PM – 6 volunteers (16 or older)
Our staging area is spread out over many blocks. As a staging area escort, you will be responsible for making sure our staging and de-staging area volunteers get to the positions where they are most needed. You will work directly with the staging staff.
This position requires a lot of walking.

Staging Area General Support: All Groups 3:00 –7:00 PM – 25 volunteers (16 or older)
The staging area contains 4 major groups, bands, equestrian, floats, and walking units. You will help our Logistics team with check-in, distributing entry numbers, verifying lighting requirements and ensuring participants enter the parade in the correct order. 6 volunteers are assigned to each areas; bands, equestrian, floats, and walking units. The four areas are listed separately in Volgisitics.

*NEW* Parade Marshals:  4:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 20 volunteers (21 or older)
As a Parade Marshal you will be the eyes and ears of the parade. Parade Marshals will be assigned to a dedicated block and will keep a watchful eye on the streets, working directly with our onsite safety and security staff.
If you are observant and enjoy interacting with people this is the perfect position for you.
This position will require additional training.

*NEW* Banner and Sign Carriers: 4:30 PM – until the parade ends – 120 volunteers (16 or older; 14 and 15 year olds can participate, but they must be accompanied by an adult or guardian)
Do you want to be in the parade, wear a cool shirt, and make sure things go smoothly? This is one of our most important Parade Volunteer positions!
You will be assigned to a parade entry and will make sure your entry is keeping the parade pace.  YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WALK THE ENTIRE PARADE ROUTE  – 1.5 MILES.

*NEW* De-Staging Team: 5:30 PM – 30 minutes after the parade ends (about 8:30 PM)  – 6 volunteers (16 or older)
As the parade ends you will direct the parade participants to their exit area. This will allow the parade entries to safely leave the parade in an organized manner. You may be asked to assist in the staging area until the parade entries start to reach the parade end.

Balloon Wranglers: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM – 24 volunteers (16 or older)
Just like the Macy’s Day parade but not quite. You will work with a team to navigate the parade route while steering a large helium filled balloon. Be prepared for a lot of oohs and ahs. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WALK THE ENTIRE PARADE ROUTE  – 1.5 MILES.
