Sundance Square Christmas Tree

Over the years, many companies and organizations have been involved in making the Sundance Square Christmas Tree a reality.  We are appreciative of the many years of support and funding provided by Sundance Square to insure the tree remains the centerpiece of the holiday season in Fort Worth, and can be enjoyed by all residents and visitors alike.

The tree is a tradition that very few cities can afford in this day and age of tight budgets. Sundance Square and Downtown Fort Worth Initiatives, Inc. are proud to be a part of the tree’s rich history,  from November 27, 2009 through January 5, 2010.

Some facts about the Sundance Square Christmas Tree:

  • Underwriting of the expenses associated with the purchase, installation and lighting of the tree is provided by Sundance Square.
  • The tree is coming from Grand Rapids, Michigan - it is a 52' tall blue spruce.
  • It was cut, wrapped and shipped via flatbed truck on November 14, 2009, and is now being installed on Main Street, between 3rd and 4th Streets.  Installation began on Monday, November 16.
    • A specially designed tree base weighing over 6,000 pounds and a cable anchoring system supports the tree.  The crane used for installation is donated by Wildcat Crane.
  • Decorations and lights installation began Wednesday, November 18.
    • Over 4000 power-conserving LED lights will be strung by our decorating company.
    • A specially-designed set for Photos with Santa, benefiting the Fort Worth Sister Cities Youth Scholarship program, will be erected around the base of the tree.
  • The decorating of the tree will be completed Wednesday evening, November 25, 2009.
  • Power is provided by Green Mountain Energy.  Green Mountain is donating all of the offsets to make the tree carbon neutral, a result of their sponsorship of Sundance Square.

 The Sundance Square Christmas Tree will be illuminated following the Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights presented by CHASE, at approximately 7:38 PM on November 27, 2009.  

  • This year’s tree lighting will occur in an incredible setting. Santa Claus and the the comedy group Four Day Weekend will help bring the 52-foot Christmas tree to life with thousands of LED lights and ornaments.
  • Photos with Santa will follow the Tree Lighting Ceremony, until 10:00 PM on Friday, November 27, and will continue with the following schedule:
    • Fridays, December 4, 11 and 18, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    • Saturdays, November 28, 5, 12 and 29, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • Sundays November 29, December 6, 13 and 20, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • All proceeds from Photos with Santa will benefit Fort Worth Sister Cities' Youth Scholarships.
  • Performances, sponsored by Chesapeake Energy, will take place throughout the holidays at the Sundance Square Christmas Tree.  Stop by during lunch or in the evenings to see wonderful entertainers from schools and performing groups from throughout Fort Worth.  Check back for a complete schedule!
